OpenSLO Community Meeting: February 2022

The February meeting covered progress toward a stable specification and a prototype for evaluating OpenSLO definitions.

Summary

1. Specification and tooling: The group welcomed additional maintainers and reviewed the proposal for a separate SLI kind. Participants highlighted the need to coordinate specification versions with oslo support. Discussion at 3:18.

2. Time windows: Shorthand durations needed to account for calendar-aligned windows, start times, and time zones. The group discussed these requirements without settling the full design. Discussion at 10:46.

3. Evaluation prototype: Marius demonstrated a Python prototype that read definitions, processed CSV data with pandas, and calculated results per subsystem and overall. Participants discussed using recorded data to compare budgeting and alerting methods. Demo at 41:27.

Action Items

1. Allow another week for feedback on the separate SLI proposal.
2. Define how specification changes and oslo releases stay compatible.
3. Continue reviewing calendar-aligned durations and the stable release scope.
